This New Video Rebukes Politicians Who Make Terrorism Muslim Americans’ Responsibility

By Sameer Rao Oct 26, 2016

Both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have perpetuated Islamophobic stereotypes when describing anti-terrorist policies as they work to occupy the White House. Trump insisted Muslim Americans must "report when they see something going on" in the second debate, while Clinton implored them "to have close working cooperation with law enforcement" in the first. A new short video from Fusion breaks down exactly why this practice needs to stop.

"When you tell me that I can solve violent extremism, you’re also telling me that I’m part of the problem," says Fusion producer Yasmin Nouh, after showing clips of both nominees and President Barack Obama saying Muslims must fight extremism in their own communities.

Nouh also addresses the NYPD’s unsuccessful monitoring of Muslim communities and TSA profiling before describing the hypocrisy of profiling Muslims when White nationalist terrorism is a statistically greater threat. "We don’t tell young White men to be our eyes and ears in the fight against mass shootings," she says.
