"The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore‘s" abrupt cancellation earlier this year left fans of Wilmore‘s candid takes on race disappointed. Now, his supporters have reason to celebrate: the comedian and producer signed an overall deal with ABC Studios yesterday (November 28).

The New York Times reports that Wilmore will develop new scripted material for ABC and work with network executives to recruit talent. Wilmore previously co-developed the successful "Black-ish" for ABC, then left the showrunner post to helm "The Nightly Show." He still executive produces HBO’s recently renewed "Insecure," which he co-created with Issa Rae.

"Disney took a chance on me as a young writer years ago and so I’m thrilled to return to the Mouse House," Wilmore said in a statement to the Times, referencing Disney’s ownership of ABC Studios. "I hope my room still looks the same."
